One of "the anointed" in our cong. said we shouldn't watch David Copperfield because they only way he could make a plane disappear was with Satan's help!!! Thinking back, she must have believed it did actually vanish. Lol

By saying things like magic are bad, do the WTS imply that it exists?
by DuvanMuvan ini was wondering why they're so uptight about magical things (cough cough sparlock cough) and was just remembering some quotes in the publications about demons and stuff i saw on another thread and i seriously think that they believe this stuff is real.. once i asked my mum why previously she said not to watch magicians because they're bad blah blah when it wasn't real, hence the term magic trick.
she admitted that while most of them are probably innocent, she still thinks some of them (anyone heard of dynamo?
) have some demonic power behind them.. i seriously wanna hear some other views on this .

What was the most rebellious thing you did while you were a devout jw?
by DuvanMuvan ini was just thinking about how humans being imperfect and satan's influence was the root of everything bad that anyone has ever done.
well i know that apparently everyone is vulnerable which got me thinking about what "bad" things people have done while they were a jw.
i'll start it off.

A congregation with all the craziest wts teachings
by rebel8 ini was just imagining, what if a group started their own congregation, with all of the wackiest teachings.
can you imagine what that would be like?.
the library would be full of 1800s-1980s publications.

It could be done like the contradictory scriptures quiz on youtube with the correct answer being the wrong "old light". It could be really funny.

I'm not trying to brag, but being an EXJW is awesome!!! Status Update-
by Coffee House Girl inhello jwn!
i don't get to check in here or comment as often as i would like because i have been working so hard at school...but i just have to share my news in hopes that newbees can see that taking the leap to enroll in higher education is worth it-.
i am graduating this spring with a bachelor degree in art history, minor anthropology...many people (including nonjw's have given me flack for choosing a "dead end" career path) but since leaving the watchtower organization's group-think mentality and "leaning on my own understanding" instead... i decided to say fuck everyone else's opinion...i am going to pursue my passion to work in a museum as a curator or archivist-.

District Assemblies, Were they a Financial Burden to you? They Cost $1200 to $2000 in some lands!
by RottenRiley inwhy does the watchtower place a harsh burden on it's low-paid and low-skilled army of witnesses?
the district conventions don't really add much value, you have witnesses making minimum wage with both husband and wife working while the elite witnesses can afford to burn a ton of cash making the poor witnesses feel worse about themselves.
i remember, some of the really poor witnesses would bring their own "cooker" to the motel to make "top ramen" and mac&cheese" while the company men had the elites take them out for "surf and turf" and other great feasts, the poor witnesses get the shaft was they are told how lucky they are to financially struggle to afford to pay for their hotels.. .

When Jah didn't give me the opportunity to earn the 600 euros I needed to fly 3 of us to Tenerife our nearest assembley that summer and we didn't make it I started asking why?
The conclusion I came to was that He didnt' really want me or we would have been able to afford it and gone. That was when my depression spiralled out of control and I ended up in hospital and the witnesses were too busy to help me when I came out so left it to my lovely kind and caring but non English speaking, non-witness neighbours to look after me even though most of the witnesses had to drive past my house to get to the KH.
It was the start to me waking up.

How many in the cong visited you when you started fading
by joe134cd ini'm just curious speaking from a person who has stopped going to meetings.
i have heard reports from inactive ones (or from ones who the elders suspect of going to the dark side) of having so many visits from elders (cong members) that it got to the point of harassment.
surprisingly i have to say from personal experience and from numerous others that i have spoken to that the exact opposite has been the case.

Nothing since the memorial 2009.
They don't even knock on doors where I live even though the KH is only half a mile away. I haven't seen witnesses out for a couple of years now.

The Memorial campaign: What question from a householder would have made you think?
by Faithful Witness ini know that soon, the jws in our area will be out in full force, on their hit and run campaign with invitations to the memorial.
.
did you ever encounter a householder during this campaign, that made you stop and think about what you were doing?
